Aileen joined Young Audiences
of Eastern PA after 15 years as the Executive Artistic Director of the Vagabond
Acting Troupe, where she produced 10 main-stage seasons that included classic
and contemporary remounts as well as over 20 original theatrical development
projects, a touring season of at least three children’s works annually, and
managed theatrical residencies and collaborations with organizations such as
The Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, the Schuylkill
Center, Winterthur Museum, Bartram Gardens, Montgomery County Cultural
Center, Philadelphia City Hall and many more.
Her work has been recognized
with two nominations for Outstanding Collaboration Barrymore Awards (winning
the award in 2003 for THREE WORLDS INTERTWINED, a theatre collaboration
with the Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology at UPENN),
while the company has also been recognized with two nominations for
Outstanding Ensemble.
McCulloch also spent seven years with the
Pennsylvania Performing Arts Academy as a teaching artist, and three of those
years as Manager of Theatrical Productions. She has been a regular teaching
artist with the Philadelphia Young Playwrights Festival for over eight years,
where she has worked primarily in inner city classrooms, and spent one year
heading up the experimental New Visions Project (using playwright workshops to
explore other school subjects).
Recent community collaborative projects
managed and written by McCulloch that are currently touring the region include,
POM POM SAVES THE DAY, a collaborative workshop creation developed in
collaboration with students from the Gotwals Elementary Center in Norristown
and the Laurel House Domestic Abuse Partnership, and MIRROR, MIRROR,
developed in collaboration with the Tri-County Community Network and
Pottstown High School.
McCulloch spent four years on the board of the Theatre
Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, where she was chairperson for the Annual
Audition committee, and on the oversight committed for the Barrymore Awards.
Holding a BA in theatre from Mary Washington College (now University) and an
MA in Theatre from Villanova University, McCulloch also studied with the
movement based Delle’ Arte Theatre Company in Blue Lake, CA. She has also
worked with such regional organizations as: Theatre Catalyst, Eternal Spiral
Project, Azuka Theatre, Brat Productions, the Brick Playhouse, Villanova
University, Temple University Ambler Campus, West Chester University,
Montgomery County Cultural Center, and many others.
Outside the arts world,
McCulloch spent two years as the editor of the News of Southern Berks and as a
stringer for the West Chester Local News, and two years as a video producer
with the Video Base in Merrimack, NH.
