Soul Portraits

"Slamming" is a unique style of expressive poetry in which couplets, metaphors and rhyme schemes are written, applauded and critiqued by students. Gayle's energetic poetry addresses issues of self-esteem, violence and family love. Using words as their most vital tool, students will be able to paint their own "soul portraits." Gayle is the winner of the 1994 National slam Poetry Award and has been featured on 60 Minutes. She was also named "Young Audiences National Artist of the Year."
