Celebration of Middle Eastern Dance

The traditional dances of Egypt and North Africa reflect many daily aspects of village life, from gathering water to wedding celebrations. In this performance, 5 dancers from Habiba demonstrate the dance, movement and character of the Fellahin, Bedouin and Nubian peoples from Egypt and the Berbers and Andalusian Arabs from North Africa. Students will also learn about Egyptian history, climate and agriculture, as well as some basic Arabic phrases.

Workshop: Egyptian Village Dance
Students will learn basic steps from a variety of dance styles, such as Egyptian, Fellahin, Bedouin and Nubian, in preparation for an Egyptian Village Festival. Students will also learn about traditional dress and each receives a washable henna type tattoo made from a rubber stamp. Each child is assigned an Arabic name along with the English translation.
