Anime Character Design and Special
Effects
Based on Anime (Japanese animation) this residency focuses on
cartooning techniques that teach students the elements of design and
how to draw human figures in perspective. Janice uses a "game" approach
to animation exercises so each student is encouraged to work at their
own level. The storyboarding technique students learn utilizes literacy
skills and integrates drawing, character invention and writing. Janice
is the Director of The Branch Out Project, which teaches non-artists
how to draw using visual thinking, communication and problem solving
techniques. She exhibits her paintings on paper and ceramics at local
galleries and is on the fine arts faculty at Rosemont College.
