
Gift of Story (Grades K-8)
TAHIRA shares stories of hope,
triumph and tragedy, drawn from a diverse repertoire of original works
and those based on African oral tradition. Her high-energy and dramatic
storytelling and vocal styles also touch upon contemporary issues, such
as tolerance, empowerment and the impact of one's choices. TAHIRA plays
authentic West African instruments during her program.
Freedom Stories (Grades K-8)
(February is Black History Month)
In honor of freedom fighters, such
as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., TAHIRA tells stories of the women and
men, such as Henry "Box" Brown, who risked personal freedom to bring
about social justice for African Americans. Dr. King's birthday is
celebrated in January.
Kwanzaa Tales (Grades K-8)
(Celebrate Kwanzaa in December)
Students will learn about the
history and seven principles of Kwanzaa through story, song and poetry.

Story, Rhythm & Rhyme (Grades
9-12)
Joined by veteran percussionist,
Baba Paul Lucas, TAHIRA interweaves story, poetry and rhythm in this
program especially designed for high school students. West African
drumming is chronicled from ancient Africa to its contemporary: Hip
Hop.
