History of the African Oral
Tradition
This residency encompasses individual and sequential workshops,
including, exercises in basic story writing; story treatments;
storytelling techniques; improvisational games to prepare for
performances; journal writing; and, storytelling production. A workshop
for teachers may also be added before or during the residency. For an
additional fee, TAHIRA will arrange for a visiting choreographer,
visual artist or percussionist to work with students. TAHIRA is a
professional storyteller who has written original stories featured on
several children's recordings. She has performed at the Kimmel Center
and Please Touch Museum and is the recipient of the 2000 Delaware
Division of Arts Artist Fellowship in Oral Literature.

30 students per class
$460 per day (6 day minimum. Includes planning session)
$2 per student materials fee
Travel: $35 per day
