Songwriting

Beginning with a performance, A Two of a Kind residency stresses an intuitive approach to songwriting and teaches specific tools that help students with or without formal music background learn and improve their skills. Students gain an understanding of musical and lyrical form and structure, rhyme scheme, melodic contour, text-setting and musical style. There is an emphasis on the process of songwriting, including analyzing, editing and critiquing. The content of the lyric writing can be connected to various themes and curricular areas such as literature, diversity, the environment or conflict resolution.
